About Teayana
Teayana McGahee is a Phoenix resident that is currently battling stage 4 lung cancer. She is also a mother of 2 young children. Unfortunately, Teayana’s contract with her previous employer expired at the end of July, and she’s been struggling to find a job that will accommodate her missing work for treatment.
What Is Stage 4 Cancer?
Stage 4 cancer is the most advance stage, meaning that the cancer has spread to other parts of the body. Stage 4 usually can’t be cured and treatment is typically focused on slowing the growth and relieve symptoms, to improve quality of life and longer life expectancy. Stage 4 lung cancer has a survival rate of 37% according to cancercenter.org
Why Teayana Is Our First Priority
Each year, Urban AZ seeks out one individual to bless during the Holiday season. Since it’s the first year Urban AZ is classified as a QCO by the Arizona government, we wanted to raise the bar and seek out an individual that has a chronic illness to be our main priority.
While seeking out an individual, one of my followers sent me Teayana’s Go Fund Me page on Twitter and told me about her. After reading that she had stage 4 lung cancer, was a single mother with 2 children, and was currently unemployed, I knew that I wanted to help her, so I reached out to her through Facebook. I had the opportunity to sit down with Teayana and her mother a couple of days after reaching out, and after learning more about her, I had zero doubts that I wanted to help.
If this fundraiser can put Teayana in a better situation to beat the odds, then it will truly be The Best Christmas Ever. Our goal is to raise at-least $5,000 for Teayana.
